I thank God for you.
Seriously, I thank God for you. I have thanked God for colleagues in ministry, which you are also a part of. I have thanked God for friends and family, which you are quite possibly a part of. But I thank God for anyone who shows up, takes the time to read, is interested, desires to be part of a community—and if my brain could ramble off a couple more things, I’d add those here too.
Maybe you’ve heard me say it before, especially in church: Thank you for being here. It’s the same thing in these daily posts—thank you for being here. I know sometimes it may not come off as sincere, but I sincerely mean it. You may think I say it to take some of the emphasis off myself—which is probably true—but that doesn’t make it any less sincere.
In a worship service, I’ve often responded after being thanked for my ministry or my work: Thank you for being here, because you give me someone to minister to. I am stubborn and can’t imagine giving this same sermon—or in this instance, this blog post—to an empty room. I usually stop there. But it’s true. I can’t imagine it. So, thank you for letting me share. And thank you for not making me live it out with nobody showing up. (I would probably still try, remember I am stubborn).
One of my favorite things about you is that once we meet, once we talk, once we grow in relationship with one another—you preach to me. Don’t get too worried. This doesn’t usually require public speaking but just sharing life with one another. This happens on a weekly, even daily, basis—really, anytime I am around people. I get to see how God is working through people’s lives. Sometimes, it’s through the joys of life. Sometimes, it’s through the sorrows of life. But always, it’s through the hope we find in being together in the presence of God.
So, thank you for being here. Thank you for listening to my reflections, my ramblings, and the parenthetical glimpses into the other things I’m thinking about.
I thank God for you.
Have you told anyone thank you today? The next steps might be expounding upon why you are thankful.
