Thank you, God, for the color green.
I never thought I would thank God for a color at my age. However, I woke up after a poor night's sleep following a tiring weekend, feeling a little groggy and grumpy. Then I looked out the window. Some of the trees had bits of green on them, and the grass was definitely becoming greener. Somehow, I started feeling better—and I don’t even think I had started drinking coffee yet (which I thought I might write about today, but it can wait).
In my semi-grumpy state, I wondered if there was something special about the color green. I put the thought off for a while, but eventually, I Googled it. That’s just what I do—if I don’t know the answer, the inquisitive part of me has a hard time letting it go, which isn’t helped by having a cell phone nearby. (For instance, yesterday I wondered what the @ sign was called. So, in case you don’t want to Google it, ampersat is one term for it. I have a problem, I know.)
Back to green. Oddly—or unsurprisingly—all colors can elicit some kind of response.
"Green can evoke feelings like revival, freshness, vitality, and peace due to its connection to nature. Green can aid in relaxation, as environments with green elements are peaceful and nurturing. Some studies suggest that green improves concentration as well."
I’m not sure about all of that, but today, green—and God’s part in it—helped me get up and going, and I’m thankful for that. I shouldn’t be surprised, though. If you’ve read many of these entries, you know that I have a strong connection to nature. I probably do have undiagnosed Seasonal Affective Disorder (though I don’t know if it can be officially diagnosed—and some things are better left unresearched).
I just know that today, something about the color green through my window made me feel better. And God, I thank You for that.
I kind of wonder if I should ask the church trustees if we can repaint the house and my office... (I joke. Maybe.)
Have you ever thought about colors that help you? What are they and how do they help?
