September 12, 2023: Just Keep Going

Daily Reading: Acts 13:13-52

Just Keep Going

In Acts 13:13-52, we read the story of Paul and Barnabas' first missionary journey. They were sent out by the church in Antioch to preach the gospel to the Gentiles.

In Pisidian Antioch, Paul preached a powerful sermon about Jesus Christ. He began by tracing the history of God's people, from Abraham to David to Jesus. He then explained how Jesus fulfilled all of God's promises to Israel by dying on the cross and rising from the dead.

Paul's sermon was met with mixed reactions. Some of the Jews were convinced by his message and believed in Jesus. Others were angry and rejected his message. They even stirred up a mob against Paul and Barnabas, forcing them to leave the city.

Despite the opposition, Paul and Barnabas continued their mission. They went to Iconium, where they would also preach the gospel and saw many people come to faith in Jesus.

The story of Paul and Barnabas' first missionary journey teaches us several important lessons about sharing the Good News. First, it teaches us that the gospel is for all people, including the Gentiles. Second, it teaches us that we should be prepared to face opposition when we share the gospel. Third, it teaches us that we should not give up, even when things get tough.

If we are going to be faithful, we need to be willing to share the gospel with everyone, regardless of their background or beliefs. We also need to be prepared to face opposition, but we must never give up. We can trust that God will be with us and help us to accomplish his purposes.

Questions:

1. What steps can you take to prepare yourself for the opposition you may face?

2. Who can you, personally, share Jesus with?

3. Where have you given up? Is it worth trying again?

Daily Prayer

Dear God, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins. I believe in him and I want to share the gospel with others. Help me to be bold and courageous in sharing your Word, even when I face opposition. In Jesus' name, Amen.
